The person who Wednesday said he was Timmothy Pitzen, a boy who disappeared in 2011 after his mother's dead body was discovered in an Illinois motel room, is not who he said he is.
DNA tests revealed Thursday that the person in question is Brian Michael Rini, a 23-year-old from Medina, Ohio, according to a police official in Kentucky.
The Aurora, Illinois police department said, "Although we are disappointed that this turned out to be a hoax, we remain diligent in our search for Timmothy, as our missing person's case remains unsolved." Authorities also vowed to continue searching for the missing person.
Timmothy's family members said they remain hopeful that someday he will be found and showed concern for Rini. His aunt, Kara Jacobs, said, "We know you are out there somewhere, Tim, and we will never stop looking for you, praying for you and loving you. We hope that everyone will join us in praying for the young man who claimed to be Timmothy Pitzen." (NBC News)
