CHURCH FIRES: Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Burning Black Churches

 

UPDATE (8:00 a.m. ET): The suspect is identified as 21-year-old Holden Matthews, the son of a St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputy. (Fox News)

Authorities in Louisiana made an arrest on Wednesday connected to a recent string of church fires.

Three predominantly black churches were intentionally set on fire over a 10-day span beginning on March 26th with St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre. Two other Baptist churches about eight miles away were later set ablaze. Police have not released any details about the suspect but have scheduled a press conference later this morning.
