What Age are Are Kids Ready for Their Own Phone?

A recent study by home security company Alarm.com found that 84 percent of moms are the ones responsible for their kids’ media consumption, and setting rules and consequences in the household. So, researchers surveyed 2,000 moms to find out when a child was ready to get their own phone.

According to the moms surveyed, age 12 is the earliest a child should get a phone. And they have to meet the following criteria first:

  • They pack their own lunch every day.
  • They walk to school or the bus stop on their own.
  • They do homework and school projects on their own without reminders about time management and general help. (Buzz 60)

What do YOU say…? What do you think is the right age for kids to get their first phone? Why?
