Flying with a pet can be convenient, but pet owners are always worried about those worst-case scenarios, like a pet getting sick or getting lost on a flight. And that’s exactly what happened toAmber Daltonwhen she was flying on American Airlines from San Francisco to Raleigh, North Carolina with her dog, Beast. When she arrived and went to pick up her 13-pound poodle, he wasn’t there.
The issue was that Dalton had her flights rebooked after an airline staffer told her that one leg of her flight couldn’t carry animals, so they rerouted her through Dallas instead of Chicago. But a mixup led to Beast flying through Chicago anyway and ending up in Philadelphia, some 418 miles from Raleigh. The airline figured out the mistake, flew Beast to Raleigh and then a staffer drove him to Roanoke, Virginia, where Dalton lives. American Airlines has refunded her pet transport fees, baggage fees, and given her a voucher to make up for Beast’s wayward journey.
