Teen Fighting Cancer Pays It Forward With His Make-A-Wish Gift

A Georgia teen battling cancer was granted a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but instead of choosing something for himself, he used it to help others.Matthew Gould, 16, was diagnosed with stage four T-cell leukemia, had to undergo chemo, became paralyzed, and had to learn to walk again. When he was told he could do whatever he wanted by Make-A-Wish and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, he used his wish for his doctor,Dr. Ryan Summers, who does childhood cancer research.

Matthew used his gift to pay it forward to his physician in the form of a $5,000 check. He figured that helping Dr. Summers would help others like himself. “I decided if I could somehow help other people, that would be a wish for me,” the teen says. “That would make me happy.”
